Swapping Magnetic Island for Honeymoon Island, a Townsville woman is taking a literal dive into the dating pool in her bid to find love.

Joining the new season of Seven’s new series Stranded on Honeymoon Island, podcaster, producer and career coach Danielle Said from Magnetic Island describes herself as a former “serial monogamist who let met men do the choosing”, but said this time she wants to take the lead and end the cycle of unfulfilling relationships.

“This time, I wanted to lead. I wanted to know I wanted the person.,” she said.

“It’s also such a wild way to date.”

A mix of Married At First Sight and Survivor, the show sees singles blindly paired up and left on a remote island to get to know each other without any modern luxuries.

Having spent over a decade working in advertising, travelling around the globe and starting her Slay Your Way podcast, Danielle said her decision to join the show and date in a very unique way came about from her becoming sick of conventional dating and having “conversation after conversation”.

She also said dating in a regional town has it’s issues.

“Dating in Townsville can be challenging — if you’re not into army boys, good luck,” she said.

“But it’s also more laid-back and genuine than the big cities, which is refreshing. Magnetic Island? That’s where it gets wild.”

She said trying to date on a small island also meant the dating pool was much smaller.

“Because it’s such a small place, you end up all pining for the same few men, and if you hook up with someone at Base the night before, you’re going to run into them at IGA the next day, it’s a rite of passage,” she said.

“So fellas, if you’re looking for love, get on the ferry, age-appropriate men are few and far between on the island – you’ll have good odds with the eligible bachelorettes.”

While she can’t give away much about her time on the show yet, Danielle said the experience was harder than she anticipated.

“I’m going to sound like a princess, but it was tougher than I expected in the sense of not having all of my creature comforts” she said.

“I’m a light sleeper, and we were sleeping out in the elements for three weeks without any pyjamas, skincare and then filming all day. I was exhausted.”

“But I really appreciated having my phone, internet and daily routine stripped from me. You get to know someone really quickly under those conditions and it’s very difficult to hide your true colours.”

Stranded On Honeymoon Island airs Monday and Tuesdays on Seven and 7plus
