Daniel Seymour: Gold Coast man charged with child abuse offences

A Gold Coast man alleged to have abused four girls – including one who was then under the age of 12 – is set to face trial as he contests the allegations.

A woman whose daughter was allegedly sexually abused by a Gold Coast man has told a court how she came to learn of the serious allegations against him.

Daniel Kenneth Seymour, 49, has been charged with five counts of unlawfully and indecently dealing with a child under 12 and four counts of unlawfully and indecently treating a child under 16.

The Biggera Waters man is further charged with three counts of assaulting a child, unlawfully exposing a child to an indecent act, and contravening an order made under the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act.

At a committal hearing on October 5 at Southport Magistrates Court, the mother of a complainant who was under 12 when she alleges Seymour abused her gave evidence to the court.

“I was told by people at the cafe he had been charged in relation to (a young girl),” the woman said.

“I asked my daughter if Dan had ever touched her inappropriately – she said no.

“I said yes or no, it doesn’t matter, I asked if he touched her bum or her (vagina) and she said no.”

Seymour has since been charged with abusing the girl when she was aged less than 12.

As the woman left the room, she stared down Seymour and muttered something inaudible in the public gallery.

The court heard the offences against four girls were alleged to have occurred at Clear Island Waters and Surfers Paradise between December 2017 and May 2021.

At previous appearances the court heard some charges relate to allegations Seymour touched the thighs, breasts and buttocks of teenage girls.

He has previously indicated his intention to fight the charges and the matter was subsequently adjourned to the District Court after Magistrate Jane Bentley committed the matter to stand trial.
