Over 10 per cent of Tasmanians have now been infected with Covid since the beginning of the pandemic as the state records 1051 new cases overnight.
The infection rate makes up a total of 51,245 people who have reported their positive result to the Department of Health since March 2020.
As of Tuesday there are currently 5574 active cases with a spike in new infections detected - 267 more cases were reported today compared to Monday.
Despite the rise the number of people hospitalised with the virus has dropped from 21 to 14 with only six patients being treated specifically for Covid and four in intensive care.
A total of 99 per cent of Tasmanians over 12-years-old have received their first dose of the vaccine while 97.05 per cent have received their second.
59.73 per cent of residents over the age of 16 have received their booster shot while 61.64 per cent of children aged five to 11 have received their first dose.
The latest statistics come after the government released stage two of their Covid-Safe school plan as students head into the second half of Term One.
Tasmania records highest new Covid case total since January 19
Another spike in Covid cases has seen nearly 1000 people contract the disease in the last 24 hour reporting period.
The Department of Health, Tasmania Facebook page reported on Tuesday morning 957 new cases were diagnosed via RAT and PCR tests on Monday.
The total new caseload is the largest it has been since January 19.
“Six hospital patients are being treated specifically for Covid-19 symptoms,” the Health Facebook post read.
“Seven Covid-19 positive cases are being treated for unrelated medical conditions.”
Two people with coronavirus are being treated in the intensive care unit.
The latest surge brings the state to 5037 active cases.
This figure could rise further, given Tasmania’s total active case tally has climbed incrementally every day since February 15, when the state had about 3000 active cases.
Some 61 per cent of five-to-11-year-olds have received their first vaccine dose, while 57.25 per cent of those aged over 16 have received their booster.
Twenty-five Covid-positive Tasmanians have died since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, with 12 of those deaths occurring in the first two months of this year.
