Tenth coronavirus death confirmed in Tasmania

A 90-year-old man from the Tasmania’s North-West coast has sadly been confirmed as the state’s tenth coronavirus death.

TASMANIA has recorded its tenth death from coronavirus, the State Government confirmed this morning.

Premier Peter Gutwein issued a statement which said a 90-year-old man from the North-West died late Friday from the virus.

The man was being cared for at the Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe.

“Sadly this is the tenth life lost to coronavirus, and the ninth life lost in the North-West of the state as a result of the outbreak,” Mr Gutwein said.

“To the North West community, which I know to be a tight knit community, my thoughts are with you all.”

Tasmania has recorded 208 cases of coronavirus.

As at 6pm Friday, there were two new cases of coronavirus in Tasmania, bringing the total number of active cases to 80.

Both these cases relate to men aged in their 20s in the North-West of the state.

To date, there have been 207 cases of coronavirus with a total number of 7983 tests done.

117 cases have recovered and been released from isolation.

As of last night, there were 13 inpatients at Tasmanian hospitals due to coronavirus, including one patient in intensive care.
