The ‘medium risk’ classification for 10 areas in the Greater sydney region will be lifted on Sunday meaning the return of Australia-wide restriction-free travel for Tasmanians.

Dr Mark Veitch, Director of Public Health, said the 10 Local Government Areas in Greater Sydney will be removed from this Sunday morning.

“This decision has been made based on the absence of community cases in the past fortnight along with extensive contact tracing and testing undertaken by NSW Health authorities.” he said.

“Anyone who has spent time in these local government areas in the 14 days before their arrival in Tasmania will no longer be required to quarantine on arrival in Tasmania.

“Anyone remaining in quarantine in Tasmania who had been in these areas will be free to leave quarantine from 12.01am Sunday (31 January).

The 10 LGAs are Blacktown, Burwood, Canada Bay, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Inner West, Liverpool, Parramatta and Strathfield.

There is however no changes to the 29 high-risk areas in New Zealand.

Public Health is asking any one in Tasmania with cold or flu like systems to contact Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 to arrange a COVID test.
