As supportive campaigns like #Shine4thefrontline and Let’s Say “Thanks!” gain momentum, hospital staff say they are grateful for the community support.

Hobart Private Hospital registered nurse Zoe Noye said she appreciated supportive gestures from the community and from other businesses for making her feel acknowledged.

“I think it’s really good for community spirit,” she said.

“For sure it’s always nice to get the recognition, and when you do have people that appreciate what you do then it certainly doesn’t dishearten you coming to work.

“You know you’ve got a job to do and it’s important you stick through it.”

More small food and retail businesses have banded together to offer essential service workers free meals and discounted clothes, while locals have started sharing messages of positivity on social media to encourage nurses like Ms Noye.

She said the Mercury’s #Shine4thefrontline campaign was a reminder that everyone was in the same situation.

“We’re all going to get out of it eventually and things will return to normal,” she said.

“But in the meantime that shining light is a good way to remind us that it’s all going to work out and we’re all in this together.”

She said it was important for essential workers to remember to give back to those small businesses who were helping them through the crisis over the coming months.
