TENS of thousands of viewers have tuned in to a new web series celebrating the highs and lows of Hobart’s beloved pubs and clubs.
The first episode promised to show viewers at home how to do their very own self-isolation Salamanca bar crawl.
What followed was four minutes of amusing and familiar references to popular bars like Grape, the Den and Post St Social.
Writer and director Kate Fox, who was the location manager for ABC’s Rosehaven and also worked on Stan’s The Gloaming, said she was overwhelmed to learn the series was resonating with about 50,000 people so far.
“We’ve all trod the sticky floors of Cargo, enjoyed a night in the dark at the Den, drunk the overpriced espresso martinis at Grape or woken up next to a half-eaten meal from Legs and Breasts,” she said.
“Most Tasmanians, and even visitors to the state, are familiar with the venues featured and are yearning to go back and drink there with their friends.”
She said the series cost her $36 to shoot at her Howrah home with help from cameraman Adam Riebel and comedian Emesha Rudolf.
Although returning to Hobart was not the Melbourne-based comedian’s plan prior to COVID-19, Rudolf said working on the project with Ms Fox was “a joy”.
Episode two – “White Girl Wasted at Iso Winery” – was released over the weekend.
