IF you’re counting down the days until you can chuck back a few beers at your local pub and want to support them in the meantime, a new campaign is helping consumers do just that.

It has been two weeks since the Federal Government ordered the shut down of some of the country’s biggest industries including pubs, clubs, casinos, cinemas and gyms due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carlton and United Breweries and the Australian Hotels Association have now teamed up to help Tasmanian pubs and clubs survive the shutdown period.

The Love of Your Local campaign is calling on Tasmanians to nominate their local and buy a pint of Cascade Draught, with the cash going to the venue immediately.

Carlton and United Breweries will then match that with a free pint, meaning people get two for one pints when their local reopens.

Customs House Hotel owner Paul Jubb said he had had to stand down 25 full-time employees.

“We know closing is the right thing to do, but it is very tough,” he said.

“To get an injection of funds like this now will help us bounce back when the ban is lifted.”
