A man has been taken into custody after allegedly slipping past security at a quarantine hotel and into public for the second time in as many days.

IT APPEARS some members of the community continue to struggle with the concept of quarantine and what it entails.

Police say a 50-year-old man who allegedly slipped past security at a government-run quarantine motel in Launceston on Sunday and was charged with non-compliance offences has broken the rules again.

This time he has been taken into custody.

Police this morning said the Launceston man had been arrested for failing to comply with bail

conditions in relation to his COVID-19 quarantine requirements.

On Sunday, the man was arrested for failing to comply with a direction of the Deputy Director of Health and bailed with further conditions.

He was returned to the Launceston motel in which he, and others, had been isolated since arriving in Tasmania from interstate

It is alleged he slipped past security and left the facility.

The next day, Monday, the same man was arrested for breaching his police bail in relation to his non- compliance with his quarantine requirements along with other offences.

This time he was detained rather than returned to quarantine and will appear in the Launceston Magistrate’s Court today.

If convicted he will face a fine of $16,800 or six months in prison.
