FREYCINET – it’s the jewel in the crown of Tasmania’s national parks and now the State Government is inviting comment on how to manage the region for the future.
The Draft Freycinet Peninsula Master Plan has been released with the aim to secure an environmentally, economically and socially sustainable Freycinet visitor experience for the next 20 years.
The plan was developed following consultation with key stakeholders over the past eight months and identifies five key initiatives to resolving the challenge of visitor growth.
These are: a visitor gateway hub; an entrance corridor; experience nodes; a network of transport connections; and a staged approach to sewerage treatment.
Freycinet is one of Tasmania’s premier tourism hotspots.
Visitation at Freycinet National Park has increased from 186,000 in 2011-12 to 301,000 in 2017-18 and it is likely that by 2020 this could increase to as many as 330,000 visitors per year.
The Draft Freycinet Peninsula Master Plan is available at www.parks.tas.gov.au and comments should be received by 9am, July 23.
