SHOPPERS have been enjoying their long awaited return to the CBD as businesses nearby the newly reopened Myer experience a welcome boost.
The department store opened its doors in Hobart and Launceston yesterday with nearby businesses benefiting from the extra foot traffic.
Mr Burger Hobart owner Alexander Haros said there were “a lot more people in the CBD”.
“It’s nice to see people in the streets and most of them seem happy things are open,” he said.
“Everything’s coming back to life.”
He said Mr Burger was experiencing queues for the first time since implementing the restaurant’s social distancing seating.
Nearby Waffle On Cafe owner Belinda Johnstone said she noticed more shoppers in town while she was busy with renovations on site yesterday.
She said she hoped the knock-on effect from Myer’s reopening would reach her business a short block away after also unlocking her doors today.

“I just assume it’s going to get busier now the children have gone back to school,” she said.
“Being able trade normally again would be fantastic.”
The reinvigorated city buzz is expected to continue today as Myer launches its stocktake sale.
Myer services remaining on hold until further restrictions are lifted include beauty appointments and fittings.
