Australia’s greatest thoroughbred is familiar with the flash of cameras on the finish line. But for the first time, the world’s top-ranked mare, Winx, has stunned in a fashion shoot.
The seven year old has been captured alongside model Nya Leth for the April cover of Vogue Australia.
The picture special has been used to mark the runner’s swan song at the 2019 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day at Royal Randwick Racecourse on April 13.
Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann said Winx was a natural.
“At Vogue, we have profiled and photographed some of the world’s strongest and most compelling women,” McCann said. “And in this issue, we were able to extend this notion to include champion racehorse Winx.
“It is not only her athleticism and record on the track that has captured the hearts and minds of the nation, it is so much more. Winx, as was evident at our shoot, is incredibly intelligent and loves to perform. The fact that she was able to do exactly what was required of her — and charm the whole Vogue team in the process — did not surprise her owners and is why they believe she manages to inspire everyday Australians who have nothing to do with the sport.”
Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann will introduce the Prize for Elegance alongside race ambassador Jesinta Franklin and Longines Australia general manager Amelia Michael on race day.
Vogue Australia April 2019 goes on sale on Monday, April 1
