Video has emerged of a Cairns homeowner chasing two hooded teens from his backyard in a brazen daylight trespass.
Alan Williamson, 63, said he was home with his wife on Friday when their cat alerted them to something in their Bentley Park backyard just before midday.
“I stood up and looked at the back door and there’s two people standing there,” he said.
“From that point, they ran, I ran … they hit our fence at a thousand miles an hour and were over it before I got to them.
“We immediately rang triple-0 and the police were here that fast, it wasn’t funny.
“They watched our CCTV, they believe they know who these people are and they’re all over it.”
A QPS spokeswoman confirmed police were called to the property shortly before midday on Friday on reports of a trespass.
Crews including the dog squad attended at home and are continuing to investigate the matter.
Mr Williamson said it marked the second incident at their property in less than two years, after the couple came home to a “trashed house” 18 months ago to find jewellery and cash stolen.
“We’ve since had the whole house re-done with crim-mesh,” he said.
“The neighbours have been broken into as well. It feels not good enough … I’ve had a gutful of it.
“We’re living behind crim-mesh, six foot fences, all the security in the world, cameras … why do we have to live like that?
“There’s not much more I can do, there’s not much more the police on the street can do.
“I don’t know how many links are in this chain but if we went through them we’d find someone asleep at the wheel … let’s hold that person accountable.”
