Two youths charged after alleged car theft at Cairns Esplanade hotel
An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy have been charged following an alleged vehicle theft from a Cairns hotel on the weekend.

An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy have been charged following an alleged vehicle theft from a Cairns hotel on Saturday, April 26.
Police allege three people broke into a Cairns Esplanade hotel office area about 11.40pm and stole car keys, before accessing the underground carpark and locating an employee’s Volkswagen.
The car’s owner allegedly spotted the group attempting to steal his car and grabbed onto the driver’s door where he was dragged by the vehicle before letting go.
He sustained abrasions to his back as a result.
Police found the car abandoned and undamaged in Winkworth Street.
The group was located nearby and taken into police custody.
An 11-year-old Gordonvale boy was charged with two counts of entering a premises, and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and unlicensed driving.
He was further charged with possession of dangerous drugs, stealing, public nuisance, possession of a knife in a public place and two counts of entering a premises with intent in relation to an unrelated matter from April 25.
He was refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court today.
A 13-year-old Bentley Park boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, and three counts of entering a premises.
Police investigations are continuing in relation to others involved.
It comes less than a week after three different teenagers were charged in a separate incident involving a multi-vehicle theft at a Bungalow car dealership on April 21.
