Two children are nursing injuries after becoming accosted in the street, surrounded and bashed at a remote Indigenous community north of Cairns.
Police allege at 10.30am on the morning of March 7 a 17-year-old Lockhart River girl and 16-year-old Lockhart River boy were walking down Ilway Street when they were attacked.
A group of other people intentionally surrounded the children before the situation escalated, police allege.
Two Lockhart River women, aged 19 and 20 and other members of the group then allegedly assaulted the two victims.
Police claim the children were knocked to the ground while being punched and kicked.
The 17-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy both received injuries requiring treatment at a local health clinic.
Police were informed of the incident and shortly after located and arrested the 19-year-old woman and the 20-year-old woman.
The 19-year-old woman was charged with one count of assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed or in company.
The 20-year-old woman was charged with two counts of assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed or in company.
Both are due to appear at the Lockhart River Magistrates Court on April 11.
