From throwing a phone across the room to an anxious drive home, Trinity Anglican School’s top ATAR scorers have revealed their reactions to finding out their results.

TAS Dux recipient Cara Elliot thought she was too early to see the results when she checked her email at 8am on Friday.

“I didn’t expect it to be released yet and I saw it immediately and I was so shocked I threw my phone across the room,” Miss Elliot said.

“It survived, thankfully, but yeah it was definitely very exciting to open that.”

Ms Elliot, who achieved the school's highest score of 99.90 said she wanted to study medicine at James Cook University or the University of Queensland.

“I’d say somewhere in Queensland as my first choice,” she said.

“I really like UQ and JCU as my first options … I want to stay close to home, around this area.”

School captain Frances Gale said she was driving her mum to work when a friend texted her to say the results were out.

“I was like I’m not checking it right now, I’m not checking it in the car, I don’t want to crash,” she said.

“It was a bit higher than what I was expecting so I was pretty happy. I got 98.8.”

Miss Gale said she also wanted to study medicine.

Like his classmates, Takeru Oguchi would also like to pursue medicine at university, achieving marks in the 99 point range.

“I primarily did the science and maths (subjects) but I also did English and Japanese,” he said.

Mr Oguchi’s top tip to next year’s graduating class was to prepare early and not leave things to the last minute.

“Just start preparing. Do a bit every day so you get into the swing of doing your study but not trying to leave it to the last minute,” he said.

One-fifth of the TAS Year 12 cohort received a score of 98 or above.

Each of the 54 graduating TAS students attained an ATAR.
