The matter of Anthony Coulter Wright was heard in Mareeba Magistrates Court on Tuesday after the 72-year-old Atherton man was arrested and charged with murder on Monday.
Emergency services attended a Gordon St property on Sunday where paramedics found Lynne Wright, 65, with injuries to her abdomen.
The 65-year-old was declared dead at the scene.
The registered nurse was working at the Mareeba Hospital at the time of her death.
Former colleague Linda Stephens worked alongside Ms Wright at Mareeba Garden Settlement Nursing Home and Hostel.
The former colleague was shocked to hear about the alleged circumstances surrounding Ms Wright’s death.
“It’s not hard to process that she has died but what is hard to process is that she worked with me … it’s such a shock.”
Ms Stephens recalled memories of a capable professional who was a joy to work with.
“She was awesome, she was friendly and you knew when Lynny was on you knew you were going to have a good shift,” Ms Stephens said.
“She was so approachable and nothing was too much trouble.
“She was a damn good registered nurse, she knew her stuff big time and she would always have a giggle with you.”
Hill MP Shane Knuth acknowledged the death which he said would be tough for the Atherton community to come to terms with.
“Circumstances like this are never easy for a close knit community,” Mr Knuth said.
“Our condolences to family and friends.”
On Monday police revealed Mr Wright was arrested by Cooktown police after being involved in a car accident on the Byerstown Range.
He was later charged with murder.
Mr Wright fronted Mareeba Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to reappear in Mareeba on July 11.
