Screwdriver robbery
Police are still on the hunt for another man after an alleged screwdriver robbery at a Cairns service station that has already landed one man in handcuffs.
Detectives have charged a 29-year-old man from Cranbrook in Townsville who allegedly threatened a worker at a Thomson Rd service station in Edmonton on July 29.
Officers allege he was with another man when the pair entered the service station about 3am with their faces covered.
One of the men allegedly approached the counter and threatened the employee with a screwdriver before demanding money and other items.
They allegedly fled the scene with a small quantity of cash and cigarettes.
The employee was not injured.
Police further allege the man stole a 60-year-old man’s wallet on July 16 after he withdrew cash from an Alfred St teller machine.
“He allegedly struck the victim in the face after he attempted to retrieve his wallet,” police said in a statement.
“The man fled after knocking the victim to the ground.”
He was finally arrested early on Sunday afternoon after officers spotted him in Manunda in an alleged stolen car.
Police say he was found a short time later hiding under a bed at a residence in Marchant St.
Bail has been opposed and the man remains in police custody, charged with two counts of armed robbery.
He is scheduled to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.
Investigations are continuing.

He allegedly became aggressive, lunged at police and punched one officer in the face.
The 31-year-old constable sustained a minor cut and bruising.
The man was later charged with one count of seriously assaulting a police officer and is scheduled to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 31.
