A teenage boy who was seriously injured when he fell from a waterfall near Cairns has been flown to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.
The incident occurred at Isabella Falls in Edmonton on Thursday morning.
At 11.52am Queensland Ambulance Service received a call for medical assistance following reports the teenager fell from the waterfall.
It was reported to emergency services that first responders had begun CPR.
The Rescue 510 helicopter winched the teenager to safety.
The teen is understood to have suffered serious head and chest injuries.
QFES station officer Bradd Tipping confirmed that multiple crews from QFES, QAS and Police were on scene.
“We have one casualty who is being transported shortly he is being worked on by QAS officers,” he said.
“I’m not sure of his condition, he’s had an incident up here in the swimming area.
“The Rescue 510 chopper is also assisting with equipment and I believe they may be transporting him shortly.”
The waterfall is known for dangerously slippery rocks and has been site of previous fatalities.
Isabella Falls is accessed from Waterfall Close and was the site of the falling death of a 19-year-old Manunda woman in 2022.
Edmonton residents have previously called for the end of public access to the dangerous waterfall following the woman’s' death with a resident echoing those sentiments again today.
“We just heard the sirens and then all of a sudden here we are,” residents at the scene, who wished to remain anonymous, explained.
“The last one was 12 months ago, some young people slipped on the rocks.
“The council put up a sign down there after the last one saying this area is not looked after by the council, you go at your own risk, people have died here.”
The residents said people didn’t know about the waterfall until someone put it up on social media.
“Now everybody comes in but it’s too dangerous,” they said.
“I wish I knew someone who could pull it down, pull it off the social media because honestly it’s just dreadful.”
