Teddy Espresso opens new Smithfield store

A wildly popular Cairns coffee shop has opened its second store, bringing the popular brew closer to its northern beaches fans.

Coffee lovers rejoice – popular Edge Hill coffee shop Teddy Espresso has opened a second store in Smithfield.

Co-owner Romano Kim, who opened the new location on Monday with brother Noah, said the move had been well-received by customers, particularly regulars who reside in the northern beaches.

“I didn’t realise how many customers had been travelling from the northern beaches to grab a coffee from us in Edge Hill, so this was good news for a lot of them,” Mr Kim said.

Despite minimal marketing, Mr Kim said the opening was busier than anticipated.

“We didn’t do a lot of marketing, just a little bit of a post on Instagram – we spread the word from the first store and we had a lot of the same customers that came over to visit us,” he said.

“A lot of students from JCU came down too.”

Mr Kim, who moved to Cairns from Sydney three years ago, said he saw a gap in specialty coffee shops in Smithfield and wanted to do something about it.

“I see a lot of opportunities in this area and we’d been waiting for a while and a good spot came out,” he said.

Mr Kim said he hoped to offer locals not just good coffee, but a relaxing environment to enjoy.

“When you come for a coffee to the cafe, it’s not just the drink you’re buying, it's the whole customer experience and luckily I have a really good team,” he said.

“If people are looking for a good coffee place and bit of a good vibe for the day, Teddy is a good place to come.”
