Teenage girl allegedly tried to rob Woree petrol station armed with scissors

A 13-year-old has been arrested and charged for an alleged attempt to rob a Cairns servo while armed with scissors.

A 13-year-old girl is in custody after allegedly attempting to steal cash from a servo armed with a pair of scissors.

Police allege the girl and a 19-year-old woman entered the Liberty petrol station on Mulgrave Road, Woree, about 11.45am on Monday.

Brandishing scissors, the girl allegedly approached the cash register and demanded money from the attendant.

Police allege the 19-year-old stole items at the same time as the girl was trying to get money from the register.

When the person working on the register refused, the duo left.

Police apprehended them a short time later along with a 16-year-old girl who had joined them.

The 16-year-old was allegedly responsible for a string of unrelated crimes, including having a knife in public and breaking and entering.

After the trio were arrested and taken to the Cairns watch house, the youngest girl allegedly spat on a watchhouse officer.

The 13-year old was wanted by police on suspicion of committing a series of other offences throughout April, including thefts, assaults and break-ins.

She was charged with four counts of stealing, two counts of enter premises, and one count each of serious assault, wilful damage, unlawful use of motor vehicle, and assault.

The 16-year-old was charged with four counts of stealing, four counts of breach of bail, two counts of trespass, and one count each of possess knife in public, unlawful use of motor vehicle, and enter premises.

Both girls were refused bail and were due to appear before Cairns Childrens Court on April 30.

The 19-year-old woman was charged with two counts of stealing and one of enter premises.

She was due to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on April 30.
