A mystery car which was left unattended in the middle of a busy Cairns intersection, temporarily blocking traffic, has been identified as a broken down rental.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed the white Haval SUV had broken down in the middle of the Florence Street and Mcleod Street intersection at 11.30am.
“The same model of car was reported stolen recently, but this car has been identified as a rental and has been taken back to the company,” the spokeswoman said.
Earlier, a QPS spokeswoman confirmed a vehicle was reported abandoned in the middle of the busy Cairns intersection.
“The (vehicle) was left in the middle of the intersection blocking traffic, unlocked with no one in it,” the spokeswoman said.
“Police attended the scene and were directing traffic.”
The spokeswoman could not confirm if the vehicle was stolen.
“Someone reported it being left there, but there were no reports of a crash,” she said.
“The car’s been taken away now.”
