Police have been called to break up an all-in brawl within the school grounds of a Gordonvale college.

At 3.50pm on Wednesday authorities were alerted to a fight first reported to involve up to 30 people at Djarragun College in Gordonvale, Far North Queensland.

But the number of students actually taking part in the violence was understood to be about four.

Up to 10 staff members entered the fray in efforts to break up the group before police arrived.

The latest incident followed a call for “urgent intervention” at the independent school by the independent Education Union due to staff and student safety concerns after up to 60 fight videos were uploaded to Instagram.

Fresh concerns about the school last month came off the back of a “riot” at the girl’s boarding school section of the Maher Rd college in 2021 when police were called to break up a large group of female students who went on a rampage armed with sticks and mops.

Nine students involved in that incident from the Northern Territory were expelled from the school run by Cape York Partnerships.

During the latest incident on Wednesday a police spokeswoman said the situation was in-hand by the time officers arrived.

“It looks like anything has calmed down, it looks like it was handled internally,” she said.

“We did get there, but we had minimal involvement.”

Queensland Ambulance Service is understood not to have been called to the incident.

In 2021, 285 students were enrolled at the coeducational school which predominantly educates Indigenous pupils.
