A Hollywood film studio has begun filming an Australian spin-off of a popular American reality TV show at a home in Holloways Beach.

The television show, Aussie Shore, produced by streaming giant Paramount+, began filming at a private residence on Monday, a spokeswoman confirmed.

The show will give an Australian take on popular American TV show Jersey Shore, released in 2009 and spawning a number of international versions, including Geordie Shore in 2011 and Acapulco Shore in 2014.

In the original Jersey Shore, the reality show followed the lives of eight housemates in a holiday home in New Jersey and the drama that followed them.

News of the production comes five months after the beachside suburb was hit by flash flooding and mass evacuation in the wake of Cyclone Jasper.

Holloways Beach resident and musician Marty Bell said he welcomed the production.

“I think it gives a bit of a lift to the community. I was in show business and have been a musician all my life so I think it’s cool,” he said.

“I still haven’t got my mind around it yet, what are the pros and cons. It’s a nice, quiet, private sort of beach. If it brings money in the economy, that sort of stuff, it’s good.”

Mr Bell said he hoped the show would bring more tourists back to the Far North.

“I think it’s great for Cairns. It’s going to bring tourists and we need tourists at the moment because we’ve lost a lot since Covid, so it puts us back on the map again in a positive focus,” he said.

Newly appointed Cairns Mayor Amy Eden confirmed the studio were filming at a private location at Holloways Beach while replying to a social media post.

“Our Asset Management team has been working with the Paramount Films production crew, as they film in a private house in Holloways Beach, and film within the region at specific locations,” Cr Eden said.

It is not the first time a major film crew has come to the Far North.

Comedy film Wizards, starring Orlando Bloom and Pete Davidson was filmed in Cairns and Cape Tribulation over five weeks in 2022.

The film is in post-production, however a release date has not been confirmed.

In late 2022 the Netflix TV series Irreverent premiered, after having filmed extensively in and around Mission Beach in 2021.
