A new architect-designed, three-storey apartment building has been proposed for vacant land within the exclusive Oceans Edge development at Palm Cove.
Last week Palm Cove Project Oceans Edge applied for a material change of use permit and submitted flashy digital renders of a building planned for 4L Coral Coast Drive, Palm Cove.
The 2648 sqm block of land next to the Sebel Palm Cove was acquired M&Y Palm Group Pty Ltd whose directors are listed as Bruce Yu and Yan Mao.
The Palm Cove registered company paid $1.2m for the block in December 2022.
The apartment building includes access to services owned by Palm Cove Project Oceans Edge, and plans propose future secondary access to the site via an adjoining lot at 1000L Coral Coast Drive.
Prepared by 2Form Consulting, it’s proposed the 18 flexible-use residential units could be used as either long-term dwellings or short-term accommodation.
“The apartment-style development adopts a contemporary tropical aesthetic and incorporates feng shui design principles to maximise orientation, airflow and landscape integration,” the application states.
The ground floor would contain parking, communal reception, a concierge space, a gym/sauna and wellness amenities, according to the development application.
Apartments would range from 114 to 210 sqm and each would feature a generous-size private balcony and open-plan layouts.
“Landscaped courtyards, shade structures and screening vegetation (will) support amenity,
privacy and visual softening of the built form,” the application states.
“And overhanging eaves and deep balconies designed to support passive cooling and shade (are) critical in a tropical environment.”
The proposed apartment block would eventually be surrounded by stage 8 and 9 of the Oceans Edge development, of which stages 4-6 are currently under construction.
“The development of the site presents an opportunity to complement the surrounding land use pattern and make efficient use of a well-located, unconstrained parcel of land within an established coastal township,” the application states.
Tyche Capital announced last year that neighbouring property, the Hotel Grand Chancellor, would undergo a major renovation and reopen as the Hilton Palm Cove Cairns Resort and Spa.
