A young man in his 20s has died after a serious collision between a car and a truck on a Far North highway.

A young man in his 20s has died after a serious collision between a car and a truck on a Far North highway.
Around 9.20am on Saturday, a truck and vehicle were travelling in opposite directions on the Mulligan Highway when they crashed.
The driver and sole occupant of the prime mover, a 39-year-old White Rock man, was flown to Cairns Hospital for observation.
A man in his 20s, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.
Police and emergency crews were called to the highway around 5km north of Mount Carbine after reports of a serious collision and fire.
At 10am Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said that multiple crews were making their way to the scene.
“It sounds like a very serious accident between a truck and a car just outside Mount Carbine,” she said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed there was at least one patient with life threatening injuries and reported that the truck and trailer may have caught fire.
At 11.30am the spokeswoman confirmed that two patients were treated at the scene with the driver of the truck being flown to Cairns.
“We are airlifting one stable male patient to Cairns hospital with minor injuries, the driver of the second vehicle is being assessed on scene with life threatening injuries,” the spokeswoman said.
Queensland Fire Department crews have also fought to control a scrub fire that developed due to the accident for much of the day.
The Mulligan Highway was closed due to the accident with motorists urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
It has since reopened.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
