An argument about loud music has got out of hand after a garden maintenance worker allegedly stabbed a nearby neighbour in the chest before firing a volley of arrows into the victim’s house.
Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch detectives charged the 27-year-old Caravonica man, Nathan Heiner, early Friday morning after making the arrest the previous day.
Police were called to a Lake Placid Road house at 10.30am on Thursday following a disagreement over the volume of music coming from the Caravonica property.
A 60-year-old Caravonica man confronted the young man about the tunes and asked the music be turned down.
It is alleged by police the argument escalated and the 27-year-old man stabbed the older man in the chest with a knife.
The injured 60-year-old managed to make it back to his home and called an ambulance before police allege the younger man fired four arrows from a bow into the victim’s house.
The accused then fled the scene on a motorbike.
The 60-year-old man was taken to hospital for medical treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and police declared a crime scene at the property.
Edmonton police located the 27-year-old man in Gordonvale at 2am where he was arrested.
It’s understood the man was found hiding in a bush and smoking a cigarette before being convinced to come out by arresting officers.
He was later charged by Cairns detectives with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, common assault and dangerous conduct with a weapon.
Mr Heiner, a lawn and garden maintenance worker, was charged by Cairns detectives with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, common assault and dangerous conduct with a weapon.
He appeared before Magistrate Jakub Lodziak on Friday.
Defence solicitor Connor Davey said Mr Heiner was “contesting” some of the police facts in the case, by saying his speaker had been broken by his neighbour during the incident, and he had also been injured.
“At that time, his temper has boiled over,” Mr Davey said.
He said Heiner had been “defending his property and himself”.
Mr Davey said Heiner was willing to report three times a week to police and to move house so that he could live away from his mother’s house, and her neighbour.
Magistrate Lodziak said the charges were serious, and denied bail, remanding him in custody to appear again on March 24.
“The conduct that has been alleged involves the threat and actual use of weapons,” Mr Lodziak said.
