Little Blu opens its doors in HomeCo precinct in Draper Street

A new Cairns coffee shop - the second venue for an already-established city caffeine hotspot - has been making a splash since opening.

A NEW coffee shop is making a splash at the Cairns shopping mecca that is HomeCo in Draper Street.

Little Blu, sister cafe to the Blu Marlin Bistro at the Reef Fleet terminal, has been open for three weeks and co-owners Paul Harris and Nigel Marshall say customer feedback has been great.

The duo spied an opportunity to cater to the needs of both shoppers and workers at Services Australia, which is also housed in the HomeCo precinct.

Mr Harris said all Little Blu’s food was sourced from the Blu Marlin kitchen, as they were not allowed to prepare food on site.

“So everything’s exactly the same quality, the same standards … It’s a good little place,” he said.

Mr Harris said he was committed to sourcing local food and produce where possible.

“We only buy Australian seafood and Australian fruit and veg, we don’t source anything from overseas, we want everything that we possibly can locally.”

Little Blu opened on June 14, and Mr Harris said there was potential for more “Little Blu” cafes to open up in the future.

“It’s a work in progress. I’d never say no – we’ll see how the economy’s going,” he said.

Little Blu is open weekdays, from 6.30am to 2.30pm. Mr Harris said they were working on a plan to open weekends.
