Major fast food giants have been confirmed for two vacant commercial lots fronting the Bruce Highway at Gordonvale.

In early 2023 CBRE kicked off a campaign to sell 1.6ha of prime land surrounding the Woolworths Shopping Centre at Gordonvale.

Of the four lots up for grabs, ranging in size from 2284sq m to 3256sq m, all but one is now accounted for, according to CBRE commercial specialist Danny Betros.

Two of the sites were already approved for a fuel outlet or fast food drive through while the other two could be developed for commercial uses with council approval.

After excited speculation as to what could be built at the two sites, it can now be revealed lot four has been acquired by a land developer on behalf of KFC and lot five will be the new home of a McDonald’s fast food drive through outlet.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing the Colonel’s fried gold to Gordonvale residents,” a KFC spokesman told the Cairns Post

“We can’t reveal too much just yet, but we hope locals are looking forward to getting their hands on their favourite KFC feeds.”

Lot 2 of Fisher Rd has been acquired by an undisclosed local developer.

“It’s under contact with a local and going through the DA process at the moment,” Mr Betros said.

“We’ve got one block left (to sell) and we are looking at commercial users.”

The Woolworths Gubuda-Gordonvale Shopping Centre, anchored by a 3315 sqm Woolworths Supermarket with a 10-year lease, is also for sale through CBRE, however a buyer has not been found.

Retailers at the centre include Coco Sushi, Malaysia Noodle House, Discount Drug Store and JSL Phone Repairs.

It’s understood that a combination of a six-day trading week and Woolworths Group asking too much had contributed to the sale not going through.

It’s not clear whether the existing McDonalds within the United Service station across the road will continue to trade once the new drive through facility is built or if the premises will be vacated at the lease’s expiration.

McDonald’s Australia has been approached for comment.
