In the early hours of morning, Theresa Jodie Lee Ampeybegan was crossing Mill Rd near the intersection with the Bruce Hwy when she was hit by a car.
Queensland Ambulance Service medics were called to the incident outside the Grafton Hotel about 1.40am, however the woman could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

“Thank you to everyone who has a very kind heart and has said their condolences to us, her families,” she said.
“May you all live long, happy and healthy lives.
“Our sister will be sorely missed.”
Queensland Police Service stated the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not physically injured.
The 18-year-old driver was assisting police with inquiries on Saturday and on Tuesday was not in custody and had not been charged with any offences.
Its understood the driver hit Ms Ampeybegan but was too shaken to stop at the scene of the collision and later reported the incident at the Edmonton Police Station.
The death of Ms Ampeybegan was the first death of the year on Far North roads, a significant reduction on the five deaths for the same period last year.

The traffic accident follows the death of Peter Coyle at Aeroglen last Thursday after the Cairns man was crushed to death after the car he was working on fell off a jack.
This death was classified as a reportable fatal traffic crash but won’t be included in Transport and Main Roads data as the incident did not happen on a road.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the Edmonton crash but police declined to provide details about circumstances leading up to the incident.
