ELLA Appleby is gunning to beat her mum’s longstanding race record at the Great Pyramid Race in Gordonvale this weekend.
Ms Appleby, 20, competed in her first race in 2021 and won.
“If anyone’s going to break her record, mum would probably want it to be me,” she said.
First time competitors need to be prepared for a real challenge that’s “with a lot of scrambling”, according to Ms Appleby.
“You’ve got to run where you can and keep your mind on the job.
“Don’t go out too hard at the start. It’s a long race and it’ll bite you eventually.”
The 62nd Great Pyramid Race begins 8am Saturday, August 6.
Event co-ordinator Renee Edwards expects about 300 competitors across all distances.
“It’s very tough. Competitors describe it like nothing else they’ve ever done before,” she said.
“It’s a massive community event. All the locals cheer everybody on. That’s what people remember.”
Registrations close before midnight on August 4. Visit pyramidrace.com.au for more information.
