Graham Potter extradition

A SPECIAL flight to bring Australia’s most wanted man to justice has departed Cairns Airport under heavy police guard after a high profile arrest on the Atherton Tablelands earlier this week.

Graham Gene Potter was escorted by federal police to the Cairns Airport for his extradition back to Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon.

He will arrive in Victoria tonight to face two counts of conspiracy to commit murder after 12 years on the run.

Mr Potter was driven from the Mareeba watch house this morning to the International Terminal at the Cairns Airport, where he was marched by Australian Federal Police and Queensland Police ahead of security screenings before his departing flight.

Under heavy police guard, the alleged Melbourne hit man now sporting a bushranger-style beard was rushed by photographers as he walked through the terminal of the airport.

The dishevelled looking fugitive remained tight-lipped after being bombarded with questions from reporters.

However he did utter a telling line, giving insight into life while evading capture for more than a decade, after being asked what he had been doing while on the run.

“Avoiding being killed,” he said.

Mr Potter was finally arrested in Ravenshoe on Monday when police raided a property on Ascham St.

He is expected to face court in Melbourne either this afternoon or Thursday morning.
