A global First Nations band who calls Cairns home will showcase their unique blend of cultural sounds when they debut their first single this weekend.
EarthKin features eight First Nations artists blending cultural, R & B, funk and jazz sounds.
On Friday night, they will debut their first single, The Moon Call, as a part of their supporting performance for The Cloud Maker at the Tanks.
“The song’s all about karma really, because what you put out in the world you’re going to get back tenfold,” vocalist and guitarist Luke Briscoe said.
“It’s about looking at the world through the lens of positivity … and when you get negative energies put onto you just have to wait until Mother Nature or whatever you believe in – karma for us – really takes charge.”
Each band member has First Nations heritage from across the world, including Kuku Yalanji, Polynesian, Bolivian Indian, Torres Strait Islander, Jamaican and Filipino backgrounds.
Mr Briscoe, who is a Kuku Yalanji artist, said the band’s performance would be a “mosh pit” of global First Nations music.
“The vibe of the music is really laid back, (exploring) our cultural roots, before journeying into a more upbeat tempo,” he said.
“It will be a bit of a whirlwind of a journey for the audience.”
The band is also working on an EP, which Mr Briscoe said would explore similar cultural themes to The Moon Call.
“It’s all about defining some of those cultural inspirations and personal storytelling, with funky tunes and beats,” he said.
“Because our motto is that we want to make sure people can listen to our music, dance and have fun while getting cultural insight into our global music.”
Tickets for The Cloud Maker are available via Ticketlink.
