A SINGER-SONGWRITER with a history of sending messages through his music has released a new song in hopes it can help unite people.
Adrian Thomas has been in the Far North for five years now and has released a song called Welcome to Country.
“It’s my perspective on some of the frontier wars, the stolen generation and some of the racism that’s occurred in the past and how far we’ve gone,” he said.
“But also in some communities there is still basic human rights that aren’t available for Indigenous people.
“In regards to clean drinking water, access to fresh fruit and vegetables at an appropriate price and adequate housing.
“It’s quite overcrowded in many Indigenous communities through Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland.”
Mr Thomas said the song talks about coming together and what can happen in the future.
“It’s to do with empowering more Indigenous politicians, connecting more with the environment, making more laws that are for inclusivity,” he said.
The song looks at Australia’s history.
“Its more about taking responsibility for what's happened in the past, but it’s not just taking responsibility it’s accepting what happened so we can be clear about moving forward into the future,” he said.
Mr Thomas has been in the music industry for 12 years and each one of his songs has a theme.
“There’s a common spiritual connection that we have as one humanity exists, my music talks about coming together, it unites us,” he said.
“They (each song) have different messages but they all connect together in one and its what connects us all.”
His latest single draws on a few different genres.
“It’s got an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) beat to it, there’s even some rap in it and elements of country,” he said.
“My music is a bit like the messages in my music, it brings all these different genres into one.”
His aim is to keep sending his strong messages around the world.
“I’ve supported Missy Higgins, I’ve toured Hawaii, I’ve toured internationally,” he said.
“I’m hoping to keep doing more of that to reach a lot of people and help drive positive change.
“So we can realise our differences are what makes us become stronger.”
