Thousands of Ergon Energy customers have been left without power after large trees fell on transmission lines north west of Port Douglas.
The unplanned electricity outage is currently impacting 3356 households.
Locations affected include Cassowary, Daintree, Finlayvale, Mango Park, Mossman, Mossman Gorge, North Mossman, Port Douglas, Shannonvale, South Mossman, Stewart Creek Valley and Wonga Beach.
Earlier on Friday Ergon Energy crews were sent patrol feeder lines before locating the fault which was found to be large trees lying on powerlines at Finlayvale Rd, just outside of Mossman.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we work on a restoration plan,” a spokeswoman said.
In an update at 2.45pm, Ergon stated emergency repairs “will take a lot longer” to complete and crews are working to get the power back on by 4.30pm
“If all goes to plan,” she said.
