Emergency services launch search and rescue for missing Aurukun man

Emergency services are on the lookout for a fisherman who’s been missing for a number of days, in Far North Queensland.

Police have launched a search and rescue operation after a 60-year-old Aurukun man was reported missing.

Adam Yunkaporta was reported to police as missing on Saturday, February 1.

Initial information indicates Mr Yunkaporta was last seen leaving his home at around 12pm on Thursday, January 30, and is believed to have gone fishing at the mouth of the Ward, Watson and Archer Rivers.

Mr Yunkaporta is described as First Nations with brown eyes and dark short hair.

He was last seen wearing black shorts and a blue coloured fishing shirt that showed an image of a barramundi.

Police appeal for Mr Yunkaporta, or anyone with information regarding his whereabouts, to come forward.

The three rivers meet west of the town of Aurukun, a remote community in Western Cape York.

Police, State and Emergency Service volunteers, aerial assets including a helicopter and drone, and a wildlife ranger have deployed to the region to assist in search efforts.

Search efforts are continuing.
