Crashes at Brinsmead and El Arish: Paramedics treat multiple patients, five transported to hospital

Emergency services crews have attended several multiple-vehicle crashes across the Far North with five people transported to hospital as residents travel home after the Easter long weekend.

Emergency services have treated several patients at a number of multi-vehicle crashes across the Far North, with five at one incident transported to hospital as people make their way home after the Easter long weekend.

Around 2.40pm on Monday, paramedics, firefighters and police attended a two-vehicle crash on Loridan Drive, Brinsmead.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said a crew attended the incident and assisted police and paramedics.

“One car had rolled but no-one was entrapped,” she said.

A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokeswoman confirmed paramedics were assessing three people.

“There appear to be no major injuries,” she said.

“At this stage no-one has been transported.”

Earlier, emergency services were called and paramedics assessed eight people[le – of whom four adults and three children needed treatment at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on the Bruce Hwy.

A QAS spokeswoman said paramedics checked on seven people at the incident.

“Five patients have been transported by road to Townsville Hospital in a stable condition,” she said.

“At this stage ages and genders have not bee released.”

Earlier the spokeswoman confirmed paramedics attended the scene shortly after 1.30pm.

“Paramedics are assessing four adults and three children but there appear to be only minor injures,” she said.

“Paramedics were on scene at 1.36pm.”

The QAS spokeswoman said the two vehicle crash caused traffic delays.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed the crash occurred at the intersection of the Bruce Hwy and Old Tully Rd at El Arish, located 123km south of Cairns.

“The southbound lane of the Bruce Hwy is currently closed,” she said.

“There will be delays until the tow truck arrives.

“We advise people delay travelling until then.”

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said two crews were at the incident to support police and ambulance.

“There were no entrapments,” she said.

“All the people have been handed over to paramedics for assessment.

“There is heavy traffic at the scene.”
