A LANDMARK pub is just a splash away from pulling back the curtains on a multimillion-dollar renovation – and there will be free burgers.
Dunwoody’s Hotel in Cairns North has been largely shut for months, with only its gaming room still operating during a mammoth $2.5m redevelopment effort.
Venue manager Jason Finlayson said the date was set for a massive reopening weekend on May 20-22 – perfect timing for a post-election tipple.
“Dunwoody’s is a locals’ pub,” he declared.
“With a complete transformation of the venue, we’re excited to meet more of our local community and to welcome back familiar faces as well.
“I think the beer garden is going to be a hit with local families.”
The hotel is owned by Australian Venue Co – the country’s second biggest pub group with more than 180 properties to its name, including Palm Cove Tavern and Trinity Beach Tavern.
The renovation includes a new beer garden and completely revamped bistro, sports bar and gaming room.
The beer garden will feature an indoor-outdoor bar. while the 150-seat bistro will launch a new menu focused on hearty pub classics.
Punters can get their first taste of the revamped hotel on a “welcome weekend” from Friday, May 20 to Sunday, May 22.
The company promises a packed weekend of live music, 200 free Wagyu beef burgers and free meals for kids rolled out across the various days.
“We’ve invested heavily in Dunwoody’s because it’s a landmark pub and our community deserves the best experience when they go out with their family and friends,” AVC chief operating officer Craig Ellison said.
