Holidaying in paradise no longer has to be foreshadowed by a guilt-ridden trip to the kennel, with one of the swankiest hotels in Cairns now offering dog-friendly stays.
Crystalbrook Collection is about to launch its latest offer targeted squarely at guests who baulk at the thought of leaving their best mates behind.
Bailey Residences general manager Lisa Brown said the hotel’s new Residential Paws package would set guests back an extra $95, and include a food and water bowl and special doggie treat – as well as a free “Dog-tini” cocktail for all human custodians during February.
“Now there’s no need to find a pet-sitter and wave goodbye to those big puppy-dog eyes,” she said.
“Get ready to pack the pooch and let them enjoy a luxury holiday or staycation with you.”
The hotel is going off leash over the next two months with artist-in-residence Amanda Mcgahan also launching her “doggie exhibition” titled Pooch and Hooch with artworks available to purchase.
Working with mixed mediums, the installation features ceramics in the form of pups, and oil-based paintings with timber floating frames.
The ceramics are created from raku hand-building clay with varied decorative techniques including underglazes and stains.
“My work aims to replicate a moment, an expression or a feeling of the animal and to mirror that feeling in the audience, whether it be humour, love, empathy or recognition,” Ms Mcgahan said.
“I have two dogs and love their quirky characteristics and mannerisms and their close similarities to human gestures,” she says.
