A 31-year-old woman has died in a crash at Gordonvale after her car rolled on the Bruce Highway and landed on its roof.
The woman, from Gordonvale, was driving a red Holden Rodeo around 5pm on Tuesday afternoon, November 12, when the vehicle overturned.
A spokeswoman for Queensland Police Service confirmed the driver died at the scene.
Her passenger, a 28-year-old woman also from Gordonvale, was assessed at the scene before being taken to Cairns Hospital.
“The passenger self-extricated and was in a stable condition,” a spokeswoman for Queensland Ambulance Services said.
Four QAS crews had been dispatched to the scene shortly after 5pm.
Cairns motorists were warned to expect lengthy delays following a serious traffic incident that blocked multiple lanes south of the city.
All northbound lanes were closed with diversions in place, while southbound traffic was reduced to a single lane.
The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the incident and is appealing to witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward as they work to determine the cause of the crash.
