Council issues health warning over Freshwater Creek sewage leak
Residents have been urged not to swim or take their pets to a popular water hole in Brinsmead due safety concerns over a sewage leak.

Residents have been urged not to swim or take their pets to Freshwater Creek, south of Goomboora Park due to a sewage leak.
Cairns Regional Council advised residents of a sewage spill which occurred at Slate Cl, Brinsmead around 12.40pm on Friday afternoon.
The leak occurred due to a blockage in the network causing an overflow and was fixed by crews by 2pm.
As a precaution, residents were advised not to not to enter Freshwater Creek downstream of Goomboora Park until further notice.
The area, from Goomboora Park to Glenoma Park is popular for dogs, however council advised owners not to allow their pets to enter the water.
“Goomboora Park and Glenoma Park areas are safe for use as long as people do not enter Freshwater Creek,” a council statement read.
Members of the public were advised to keep clear of raw sewage or areas that have come in contact with raw sewage.
Members of the public were also reminded not to take fish, shellfish or items from waterways in the affected area and do not enter these waterways.
Contact with sewage or contaminated waterways, for people and dogs, can cause serious health problems.
Please observe warning signs and public notices and follow any directions provided by Council or State Government officers.
Council is testing water regularly and will provide an update when further information become available.
