A champion woodchopper has proven himself a cut above the rest after beating out the competition at the national titles hosted in Cairns over the weekend.
New South Welshman Brad De Losa was crowned Australia’s PRO Champion for the second time at the Stihl Timbersports 2024 Australian Trophy on Saturday afternoon at the Cairns Convention Centre.
Mr De Losa, who missed out on the top spot at last year’s competition, said he was proud to be back in the game.
“It’s been a long journey to get back here, a lot of competitions in between and definitely been a hard training schedule,” Mr De Losa said.
The axeman’s win in Cairns will take him to France in November where he will represent Australia at the Stihl Timbersports World Championships.
“It’ll be head down, bum up for the next few months to get ready to go over there but I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.
Two-time silver medallist and young mum Maddison Kirley finally snatched the gold, winning the Women’s Championship at her third appearance in the professional competition this year.
“I’ve placed every year that I’ve competed in this competition, I’ve had a couple of babies along the way and to finally be up here is such a privilege and an honour,” she said.
Cairns Convention Centre is the first indoor arena to host the games in Australia and 2024 marks the first year the competition has been held in Cairns.
