Bystanders were gobsmacked to see a normally cantankerous bird calmly taking a Sunday stroll through the Innisfail CBD.
The witness who took the footage spied the Cassowary near Woolworths.
“It was just walking down the street, it was very weird,” the bystander, who asked to remain anonymous, said.
“It kept walking up the street and disappeared.
“I have never seen that before, it was very weird.”

Liz Gallie of Mission Beach Cassowaries said the event was “highly unusual.”
“I have never heard of any cassowaries walking through there,” Ms Gallie said.
“It would not have been an adult, it would have been a young bird that was dispersed once it came of age.
“They get pushed out of their habitat.”
Ms Gallie said the animal’s fractured stomping grounds were a likely explanation for the unusual sighting.
“At the beginning it was a huge habitat block,” she said.
“There are now patches of rainforest here or there.
“It has probably been pushed out and had no where to go so it ended up in a built up area.”
She said witnesses could call the Department of Environment to report cassowary sightings on 1300 130 372.
“It will have to be found and relocated,” Ms Gallie said.
