Big ideas to help grow the Far North are being encouraged with Cairns set to host the first community cabinet under the LNP next month.

Premier David Crisafulli and his Ministers will meet residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to discuss priorities and identify how the government can work to improve the lives of Far North Queenslanders.

The event will be the first in a series of community cabinets to be held throughout the year, Mr Crisafulli said.

“It’s important to me and to our Ministers that we meet as many Queenslanders as

possible to discuss the challenges and opportunities to build a better Queensland

together,” the Premier said.

The events will help further discussions on key infrastructure projects across the region, Member for Mulgrave Terry James said.

“This is a great opportunity for the Cairns community to meet the cabinet and have

their say about the issues affecting them and the opportunities which we have to

develop our wonderful region,” Mr James said.

Member for Barron River Bree James encouraged residents to participate in the

event.

“This is a golden opportunity for the community to be bold and to create a vision for

Cairns which future generations will be proud of,” Ms James said.

Earlier this year, Cairns hosted a statewide tourism industry forum as part of the LNP’s Destination 2045: Queensland’s Tourism Future initiative.

The Coalition is set to deliver key election commitments to the Far North, including a multi-million dollar performing arts centre at Whitfield State School.

The Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre will also expand, with a new centre on Green Island and investment in a satellite learning centre in Cairns to assist the next generation of TAFE teachers.

The region will also benefit from the re-established Bruce Highway Advisory Council which met in North Queensland in December, Mr Crisafulli said.

Applications to participate at the Cairns Community Cabinet are now open.

The community cabinet event will be held on Sunday, March 2.
