The school holidays may be winding down, but families can still enjoy Easter activities across the region.

Shopping centres across the city have plenty of activities to keep the young ones occupied, including Cairns Central’s iconic Easter staple, Melville’s Farm.

Owner Craig Melville, who has been bringing farm animals to the store for 25 years, said the best part of the job was seeing the smiles on people’s faces.

“I could win $200 million in the lotto and I’d still do this,” he said.

“It’s not a job. It’s a passion.”

The farm includes a variety of animals, including Japanese chickens, Greek donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs and much more.

“There’s three things we have to have... all the animals have to be colourful, cute and unique,” he said.

Melville’s Farm will be open to the public between 10am and 4pm, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, the store hosted an Easter Egg hunt with Triple M Cairns Breakfast LIVE on Thursday, April 17.

Across town at DFO, families can take part in colouring and shopping competitions.

A DFO spokeswoman said colouring pages can be collected at the Information Desk until April 20.

“Once finished, head to the Information Desk to collect your very own Easter goodie bag,” the spokeswoman said.

“To claim your goodie bag, submit your completed sheet at the Information Desk on weekdays only from April 10-20, during centre operating hours.”

Additionally, families can shop at DFO Cairns Speciality Stores and spend a minimum of $50 for a chance to win a $1000 DFO Gift Card.
