An employee has been sacked after allegedly sharing vision of a woman captured on CCTV giving birth at a well-known Cairns venue.
The CCTV vision, filmed on a phone and shared to social media, captures the moment a pregnant mother walks toward a corner of the Raintrees Tavern before partially removing her clothing.
A moment later a tiny baby can be seen hitting the floor.
A quick-thinking security guard rushed to pick up the baby and cradled the infant in his arms before walking out of the frame while the mother appeared to lean against a partition.
Cairns Security firm Diamondsec VIP Protection and Training Academy, understood to provide guards to Raintrees Tavern, has been contacted for comment.
The clip has been widely shared on Cairns social media pages leaving many aghast and concerned for the welfare of the new baby and mother.
In a statement provided to the Cairns Post Raintrees Tavern parent company ALH Hotels addressed the incident.
“We take privacy very seriously, have strict policies protecting staff and patron privacy and regret CCTV footage has been accessed and shared in this way against company policy,” a spokeswoman said.
“It is clearly unacceptable.
“In addition to taking steps to ensure this does not happen again, appropriate disciplinary action has been taken against the team member who filmed and published the footage on social media.”
The incident is believed to have happened on January 26, however the Raintrees Tavern employee had their employment terminated on Thursday.
A Queensland Ambulance medics were called to the Pease St venue following the unexpected delivery of the infant and Raintrees Tavern staff supported the new mum and baby immediately after the birth.
“We were called to a job fitting this description in Manunda. On arrival there the patient had already left the scene in a private vehicle,” a QAS spokeswoman said.
The mum and baby’s condition following the unexpected delivery are currently unknown.
