A Cairns mother claims youths shot at her car with a slingshot, narrowly missing her young daughter who was sitting in the vehicle just minutes earlier.
Brierly Rae said she was driving southbound on the Bruce Highway on Thursday night, near Woree, when she heard a loud bang.
“It was so loud, I wasn’t sure what had happened, I pulled over and saw this,” she said.
“I initially thought (it was) a BB gun or something. My husband seems to think a sling shot with three ball bearings is more likely.”
Ms Rae said she hated to think of what could have happened had the holes gone through the car window.
“(It) could have been an incredibly dangerous situation if those holes had hit 20cm higher and gone through the window my little girl had been sitting in five minutes before.”
Ms Rae said she called triple-0 immediately to report the incident.
Ms Rae believes the slingshot shooters were hiding in a tree on the left hand side of the road.
“I saw a heap of young kids in the drain behind the tree when I turned around and drove back,” she said.
Ms Rae urged fellow motorists travelling on the highway to stay safe.
A Queensland Police Spokeswoman confirmed the incident had been reported to police.
