A man who crashed and rolled a stolen car near Babinda just south of Cairns on Monday night, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, is now the subject of a police appeal for information.
Emergency services were called to the scene just before 6pm, following reports a white Toyota RAV4 had left the Bruce Highway in Bellenden Ker and crashed near Ellis Road.
Emergency crews located the vehicle about 50 meters off the roadside after it had rolled, while motorists were advised to expect delays on Monday night, January 13, due to the highway being closed in both directions.
Authorities confirmed the driver, a 32-year-old Manoora man, was transported to the Cairns Base Hospital with pelvic pain following the crash.
The Queensland Fire Department said they had two vehicles one scene in addition to Queensland Ambulance Service.
A Queensland Ambulance Spokeswoman said the male patient had “no major complaints, just pelvic pain at the time,” she said.
“One stable male patient with pelvic pain was transported to Cairns Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway at 6.01pm.”
Police alleged the Toyota was reportedly stolen from a Caravonica property on Sunday, January 12 and are now appealing for assistance from the public, on information following the single-vehicle rollover.
Investigators are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam vision to come forward.
