Power was restored to Port Douglas after a gas-related incident on Garrick St had the seaside town in a frenzy earlier in the day.
Three buildings were evacuated after contractors accidentally ruptured a gas line while tinkering with NBN cables on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the corner of Garrick St and Macrossan St after gas permeated the air.
Holiday apartments including Balboa and Beachcomber apartments were affected.
Lynette Bradford, Balboa Apartments’ manager, said everyone was okay although the town lost power among the chaos.
“There have been some contractors working on NBN cables … they hit a gas line that apparently wasn’t meant to be there,” Ms Bradford said.
“Most of Port Douglas village is without power.
“It’s not very fun here at the moment.”
A QFES spokesman later confirmed the operation was wrapped up at 1.30pm.
“Crews conducted area search and testing on drains. They then remained on scene to conduct atmospheric monitoring,” the spokesman said.
“Ergon restored power to all Port Douglas about 1.30pm.
“Everyone is safe.”
A police spokesman at 3pm said the incident was finalised and traffic control had been removed.
A QAS spokesman confirmed no-one was injured in the incident.
