A whopping $400,000 has been raised for Cairns Hospital in just one day, thanks to the Trinity Advisory Group.
Having raised $1.2m in five years, the annual fundraiser was held at Little Sister restaurant on the Cairns Esplanade on Friday.
FNQ Hospital Foundation CEO Gina Hogan said it was an incredible feat but the fundraiser had started through tragedy.
“Today is a really special day because it started from something that was really quite a difficult time for Rob and Sue and him having prostate cancer,” Mrs Hogan said.
“He came through his recovery and he had access to a surgical robot for his surgery.
“But not everyone has access to a surgical robot so Rob and Sue started to fundraise towards a surgical robot in the public health system.”
Rod and Sue Sherrington, the masterminds behind the event, said they were proud of its success.
Far North residents are nearly halfway to achieving the staggering $4.3m cost of a brand new DaVinci surgical robot that would improve patient outcomes and attract young surgeons to the region.
Auction items included a Louis Vuitton bags, golf getaways and resort trips.
Mr Sherrington said the day was much more than just prizes.
“We get together, and we give back to the community who’s given us so much,” he said.
“No one’s successful by themselves, right?
“So, what I want to say to everyone here is that we’ve got values, we come together and we say we are in a privileged position and we can help out,” he said.
